This tutorial is for those that wish to print a custom size photo that provides white space that hits a target ratio, or just use some trial and error to see differant white space views. All 5 basic project fields need to be entered. The mat dimentions and the photo aspect ratio are then used to re-size the photo with less entry info needing to be changed and also capture and pass fields so a print size can be calculated for a target white space value. If you know approx photo size with real aspect, those values can be entered. Previous print with 9x12 or 11x14, or 8x10, etc. If you do not know you photo's aspect ratio, the aspect ratio calculator should be used with the width and length in pixels of the photo to be printed. Example (width = 3456 : length = 4588) = aspect ratio of 1.33 The application needs to have a starting photo/art object smaller than the mat and large enough to create a photo to view and draw. The easy way to use the aspect ratio and accomplish this is for you to enter the real mat size Then enter 100 as photo width and (100*aspect ratio) for length. AR=1.25, W=100 L=125 // Ar=1.33, W=100 L=133, etc. After calculation the AR field should be the same, and a very small photo should have been drawn to view. Example : ![]() Then it is necessary to push the "Lock" Button just to the right of the Art-Aspect Ratio field. An "X" will then be placed in a small box just to the right of the button as a reminder that you have locked the photo aspect ratio. Example : ![]() You can now enter a new length in the photo length field and when you re-calculate, it will calculate the correct width to keep the photos aspect ratio. You can now go up or down in what increments you want to see a different print size view. To make it faster to re-calculate, I added a very small re-calc button just to the right of the photo length field "C", it allows for a lot less mouse/wrist movement. Example : ![]() Option two is if you know your favorite calculation method and target ratio, use the calculator and have it give you the photo size needed. Example: You like (Art/Mat White Space) and 1.25 as your target value Enter 1.25 in the entry box and press the (Art/Mat White Space) button. It should calculate both width and length in both metric and inch values. Re-Enter the length value in the photo length field and re-calc. Example : ![]() ![]() * Note, If you press the "Lock" button when it is locked it will toggle off if needed. * Contact : kurt@kurtebertphoto.com Web : http://www.kurtebertphoto.com/kmat/ |
